God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1 (KJV)
Storms come to every life. Sometimes without warning, sometimes with waves so sudden they steal your breath. The waters rise, the winds howl, and everything familiar feels like it’s shifting beneath your feet. Yet in the midst of trembling circumstances, God speaks a word that stills the soul: “Be not moved.”
To be unshaken does not mean the storm won’t touch you. It means the storm won’t take you. It means the trial may press, but it cannot penetrate. The winds may bend your branches, but they cannot uproot your foundation. Why? Because your footing is on the Rock. Your stability does not come from calm conditions but from an unchanging Christ.
Scripture does not hide the reality of storms:
“When thou passest through the waters…” — not if, but when (Isaiah 43:2). The presence of trouble is not evidence of God’s absence; it is the stage upon which His faithfulness shows itself strong. Storms reveal what you’re standing on. They distinguish between surface faith and anchored faith. They expose whether your confidence is built on shifting emotions or eternal truth.
Jesus taught this when He spoke of the house founded upon the rock (Matthew 7:25). The rain came. The floods rose. The winds beat hard. Yet the house stood. Why? Because the foundation decides the outcome.
In the same way, the believer who hides their life in Christ discovers a fortress that cannot fall. Nahum declared, “The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble…” (Nahum 1:7 KJV). Not a place you run to after breaking — but a refuge built to hold you while the storm breaks around you.
When fear whispers, when waves rise, when everything around you shakes.
Remember this: Your God does not.
The storm may roar, but it cannot reach the One who shelters you. Anchor yourself in His presence. Let His Word become the weight that keeps you steady. Let His faithfulness quiet the tremors within.
Your peace is not found in calmer weather.
Your peace is found in a stronger God.
And because He stands, you will too.
